Values

Political action derives its impetus from value-based thinking at the core of the National Coalition Party, which visions I wholeheartedly embrace. Values make the building-stones of a society that is able to pay due attention to all and every one of its members.

In many other political and personal frameworks politics is synonymous with the striving for opposing interests. Thus sides are taken, among others, for the labouring class, people living in the countryside or linguistic minorities – always against someone else. I don´t believe in politics of that nature.

As a spokesman for value-based politics I cannot overstate the importance of goal-setting. I take distance from political actors and parties for whom means have become more important than ends. For instance, absolute objection to nuclear power does not make sense if after careful evaluation it proves to be the best solution for the environment and the people.

The values that guide the direction of my political thinking are: liberty, equality of opportunities, education, encouragement, tolerance and caring.

I led the work aimed at reforming the National Coalition Party Statement of Principles for three years. The work was concluded when the new Statement of Principles was approved in the party congress in Jyväskylä in June 2006. You are invited to read further about the definition of my values in the Statement of Principles.*
